Are you celebrating Thanksgiving? Here in the U.S. at Musicnotes headquarters, we’ll be enjoying turkey, stuffing and all the fixings on Thursday. While we won’t be around to arrange new songs, like our free sheet music for December, we’re still thinking about music.
In this post, we’d like to share with you ten songs that we think you’d really enjoy playing or singing as part of your Thanksgiving celebration.
- 1. Thankful by Josh Groban – Debuting on Josh Groban’s 2007 album entitled NOEL, sheet music for Thankful has rapidly become a popular favorite among many of our customers.
- 2. Thankful Heart by The Muppets – Even though this Paul Williams’ tune is from THE MUPPETS CHRISTMAS CAROL, Thankful Heart is a perfect song to sing for Thanksgiving because it talks about the importance of counting your blessings.
- 3. We Have Much to be Thankful For by Irving Berlin – Published in 1913, We Have Much to be Thankful For is a love song from one “sweetheart” to another.
- 4. Thanksgiving Theme by Vince Guaraldi from PEANUTS – Did you know that there was a PEANUTS THANKSGIVING SPECIAL? This popular Thanksgiving Theme originates from the animated TV special featuring Charlie Brown, Snoopy and all his friends.
- 5. Thanksgiving by George Winston – According to the liner notes for George Winston’s album DECEMBER, this piano solo was “inspired by friends and places of Miles City, Montana.”
- 6. Thanksgiving Day by Dave Brubeck – Thanksgiving Day is a short jazz piano solo composed by American jazz pianist, Dave Brubeck.
- 7. Turkey Lurkey Time by Burt Bacharach – Although this song sounds like it should have been written specifically for Thanksgiving or Christmas, Turkey Lurkey Time is a song from the Broadway show PROMISES, PROMISES. This song definitely will get you in the mood for Christmas, too!
- 8. We Gather Together a Traditional Dutch Folk Tune – We Gather Together is a hymn that is often sung on Thanksgiving Day, and originates from the 1600s.
- 9. Simple Gifts a Traditional Shaker song – Written by Joseph Elder in the late 1840s, this tune is considered to be a dance song. Simple Gifts was also performed on LITTLE HOUSE ON THE PRAIRIE.
- 10. Thank You for the Music by Abba – We thought we’d round out our list with this fun song from Abba, which was also performed (minus the first verse) in the musical MAMMA MIA! After all, what musical artist wouldn’t want to sing Thank You for the Music!!!
For those of you that are celebrating Thanksgiving, we hope you’ve enjoyed our list of ten songs for the holiday. Don’t forget to eat lots of turkey, pumpkin pie and mashed potatoes!
