For the first time, one of our contestants decided to submit a creative video, where she did not record herself as a performer. We contacted our contestant, asking her why she chose to submit her entry this way. She said, “I do not show myself singing because I wanted to put the emphasis on the words of this beautiful song -- which is really like a prayer for our country. Some music scholars speculate that the song’s history may be traced to an early 18th century opera called “The Kingdom of the Birds,” but it wasn’t until the early 20th century that “Old McDonald” evolved to the song as we know it today. Initially published in 1917, this beloved nursery rhyme has been translated into several languages and has been recorded by dozens of performers around the world.

Today, I am pleased to present you with two contest entries that we hope you’ll enjoy. Each performance qualifies for our contest. One contestant decided to play the song “When My Baby Smiles At Me” which was February’s free song of the month. The second chose a classical Musicnotes Editions piece for their contest entry. The full title of the piece is the Sonata in C Minor “Pathetique” II. Adagio Cantabile Op. 13, No. 8 composed by Ludwig Van Beethoven.

This composition was a special arrangement put together by our professional staff, and included Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy, Nutcracker March and Dance of the Reed Flutes. Certainly an extremely challenging piece to learn in a month, these two contestants were up to the task.

Five contest entries have been approved for viewing in our November contest group and are now open to the public for rating.

The second way to rate the contest entries, is to watch each video below and rate their performance. We hope that you will rate these contest entries and comment on the performances below. Remember, these videos can be watched either on YouTube! or on our blog.

A performance is defined as: the musician playing or singing the song without the aid of an additional soundtrack or music recording using a method called “syncing” or similar means.
