Like many carols, the full set of lyrics describe the Christian celebration of Christmas. Its repetitive refrain and popular melody have turned this into a widely popular Christmas carol that has been covered by several artists.

The Christmas carol What Child Is This? has an interesting history. The melody originates from a traditional English folk tune that was written in the 1500s. This song, which originally had nothing to do with the Christmas holiday, was known as Greensleeves. It wasn’t until the 1800s, when William Chatterton Dix wrote the lyrics for What Child Is This?, that the melody for the song Greensleeves was performed as a popular Christmas carol. Today, many people still confuse the original title of Greensleeves with What Child Is This?

We hope you enjoy our sale on traditional Christmas carol entitled What Child Is This?.
