Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Song Requests in The Whole Note
Posted on Oct 23, 2009 by Monica.
Are you a fan of Buffy the Vampire Slayer? This television show, created by Joss Whedon, was about a teenage slayer who hunts vampires. Certain episodes were risky, creative endeavors that pushed the boundaries of this paranormal show. For example, Hush was an episode nominated for an Emmy with very little dialogue. Once More With Feeling was a musical episode that is widely popular, even to this day. The lyrics were part of the episode’s story, so characters often broke out into song. Of course, there were also a few random blurbs in the show that added a little bit of silliness, too.
With music and lyrics written by Joss Whedon, the songs offer a range of styles from jazz to rock to Broadway. Now, you can download digital sheet music for Once More With Feeling. Here are some of the more memorable songs from this popular episode:
- I’ll Never Tell which was sung by Xander and Anya
- Going Through the Motions was sung by Buffy, but was also sung as a reprise.
- Rest In Peace was sung by the vampire Spike to Buffy.
- Under Your Spell was sung by Tara to Willow
- Standing was sung by Giles
- Walk Through the Fire was sung by the cast from Buffy the Vampire Slayer
In addition to songs from this musical episode, we also have more sheet music from Buffy the Vampire Slayer, including the theme song.
Hit Songs from Your Song Requests
We are pleased to announce that we’ve added these brand new songs straight from your song requests from some wonderful performers!
- Fallin’ for You by Colbie Caillat
- Doesn’t Mean Anything by Alicia Keys

Spooky Broadway Shows, $1 Off Treat and More in The Whole Note
Posted on Oct 16, 2009 by Monica.
In this edition of The Whole Note, we’d like to turn your attention to the sound and stage. Do you know what’s lurking behind the curtain? We do! There are several Broadway shows that are perfect for Halloween. Whether they inspire you to dress up in costume or sing a little tune, we think you might get a kick out of these shows.
SWEENEY TODD: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street is a Broadway show that first appeared on stage in the late 1970s. Based on a character from the Penny Dreadful serial novel from the mid-1860s, this spooky barber cut more than his client’s hair. Assisted by Mrs. Lovett who bakes his victims into her pies, this is definitely one of the creepier shows ever to hit the stage on Broadway. Songs include Green Finch and Linnet Bird, Not While I’m Around and The Worst Pies in London.
Man-eating plants from outer space, frightening dentists and big hair run amok in LITTLE SHOP OF HORRORS. The show has a little bit of a “B”-movie feel to it. A popular show for a lot of kids, songs include Suddenly, Seymour, Somewhere That’s Green and Feed Me.
Both PHANTOM and PHANTOM OF THE OPERA were inspired by the 1910 novel Le Fantôme de l’Opéra written by Gaston Leroux. The story of a disfigured man-in-the-shadows who falls in love with a beautiful girl named Christine may be part romance, but it’s also a terrifying and tragic story, too. Over the years, the phantom’s signature mask has inspired many Halloween costumes. The new PHANTOM is more like the original novel than the Andrew Lloyd Webber version, but both offer memorable and haunting songs like Think of Me and Home.
Other Broadway shows perfect for Halloween include WICKED, JEKYLL AND HYDE, THE ROCKY HORROR PICTURE SHOW and YOUNG FRANKENSTEIN.

- Wandrers Nachtlied II, Op. 96, No. 3, D.768 performed by Ulf Bastlein

Well, first we’ve got “the” song everyone’s been asking for. Korean composer Yiruma’s River Flows in You sheet music is on Musicnotes.com for first-time in digital, here in the U.S.
Why is this song so popular? Believe it or not, some fans of Twilight tagged the song before the movie came out on YouTube! as “Bella’s Lullaby,” exposing the music to other fans of the series. Our interview with Carter Burwell explains a little bit about this phenomenon, because it’s not the true “Bella’s Lullaby” that Carter composed for the film.
Although this song isn’t part of the official Twilight soundtrack, your requests overwhelmed all of us here at Musicnotes. Now you can enjoy playing this hot, hot song!
That’s just one hot sheet, but we have quite a few more! Miley Cyrus has a hit single out, available on her new soundtrack from Hannah Montana: the Movie Soundtrack out in stores on March 24th. Fuel your passion for music with this hot single before the soundtrack comes out! Play The Climb by Miley Cyrus!
Calling all American Idol sheet music fans…this past week Carrie Underwood performed on American Idol at the Grand Ole Opry with Randy Travis. I Told You So by Carrie Underwood and Randy Travis is now live on Musicnotes.com.
Burning up the charts for Blake Shelton is the song She Wouldn’t Be Gone. This is the number one download for Blake on iTunes! Speaking of new hits, an artist just covered an original release and performance by UK band Snow Patrol called Run. Yesterday, we added Run by Leona Lewis.
| Watch this official video of Angels on the Moon!
Hope you’re eyes aren’t full of smoke yet! We’ve got one more hot song that you’ve requested to mention. This song by the band Thriving Ivory has been rocketing around YouTube! Hope you enjoy listening to their song “Angels on the Moon” Then? Why not join in the fun and play Angels on the Moon sheet music? |
Burning to Play those Hits? Here’s a FOUR-DAY Coupon to Help!
Through Tuesday, March 24 at midnight, take twenty percent off your digital purchase through Musicnotes.com. This limited-time discount doesn’t apply to collections of sheet music, but it can be used on Guitar Guru. All you have to do is use coupon code MNSPRING when you check out to get this hot discount!

Had a Song Suggestion? Here’s a Few of Your Requests!
Posted on Mar 12, 2009 by Monica.
Seems like only yesterday when we posted about our continued efforts to help you find your song. We’re not ready to make our big announcement yet, but we can tell you that we’ve made significant changes on the back end to get ready a change. Before we revisit the song suggestion tool for those of you who are new to Musicnotes, here’s the Top Five most requested songs that are now available on Musicnotes.com. These are songs that YOU asked for, and are now available through our site for the US and Canada.
- One Pair of Hands by Carroll Roberson
Never Say Never by The Fray
Where the Story Ends by The Fray
Check Yes Juliet by We The Kings
Womanizer by Britney Spears
Earlier this year we talked about how we were making improvements to our Musicnotes song suggestion tool. In the post where we had explained How to Suggest your Song to Musicnotes.com, we had mentioned a few other songs that you had requested:
If you can’t find sheet music for the song that you’re looking for, we encourage you to use our song suggestion tool. We take your requests seriously, and have added several songs over the past, few months to our website including: sheet music for the Twilight soundtrack, Mistletoe by Colbie Caillat and Fidelity by Regina Spektor.
Thanks to all of you who suggested songs. As we mentioned earlier this week on Twitter, sometimes some music never even gets to print (or digital format) for many reasons. Some songwriters never even consider releasing the song as sheet music because the film they wrote for didn’t do as well as they expected. In some cases, some artists release sheet music in specific areas of the world, like Australia, but don’t make the songs available elsewhere.
Even though realizing that there are issues with an artist or a song is definitely not the fun part of reading your song requests, we are really happy when we can fulfill your requests. Thanks to you, we just celebrated your five millionth digital download since Musicnotes first started. We hope you’ll join us as we raise a glass to you today. Cheers to fulfilling your favorite song requests and celebrating the next five million!!!
Now, what are you reading our blog for… Grab your sheet music and play or sing your favorite song today!

How to Review Sheet Music on Musicnotes.com
Posted on Feb 16, 2009 by Monica.
Did you know that Musicnotes.com customers can review the sheet music they’ve purchased on our site? Sheet music reviews can be pretty subjective, because musicians and singers might have different levels of proficiency. That’s one of the reasons why we designed the reviews the way we did. Customers can score sheet music based on its difficulty, the quality of the arrangement and its accuracy. Combined with the ability to add personal comments, these star ratings offer a great perspective on the downloadable sheet music we have on our site before you purchase them.
Take a look at the customer sheet music reviews for the song, “Viva La Vida.” The “reviews tab” is the fifth tab that appears underneath the sheet music and allows customers to see the reviews they’ve written.
In order to write a review for the sheet music you’ve downloaded from our site, you need to create an account that allows you to have a personal profile with us. What details you’d like to display in your profile are entirely up to you; some customers let others know that they are music teachers or students. This helps the community-at-large understand the perspective of the sheet music reviewer and provides you with a place to list your preferences. For example, a beginning pianist will have a much different opinion on the difficulty of a piece than someone who may have a bit experience (see an example). By gaining insight into the reviewer, the person reading the review will be better equipped to make a meaningful decision regarding whether or not the arrangement is right for his or her skill level.
We talked about how customer profiles work on our site in an earlier post, Four Reasons to Fill Out your Customer Profile and Preferences. As stated in that article, one of the other benefits to filling out your Musicnotes profile is to save money at Musicnotes.com!
Get a $5 Off Coupon for Filling out your Preferences – If you haven’t done so already, by filling out your customer profile and preferences you’ll get a $5 Coupon to use for your next purchase. All you need to do is fill out your customer profile in the way that you’re most comfortable with to get the offer. You do not need to opt in for a public profile or sign-up for the newsletter to get the coupon. To get an idea of a partial public profile, here’s a link to my Musicnotes.com customer profile. You’ll see that there were areas I chose to make private.
Here are a few other examples of how sheet music reviews display on our site: Read the sheet music review of Vanessa Carlton’s A Thousand Miles or the comments on the sheet music review of Love Song by Sara Bareilles.
If you haven’t created a customer profile, we hope you consider taking the time to review the sheet music you buy, and encourage you to read other reviews on our site.

Posted on Jan 31, 2009 by Monica.
Can you hear birds singing? While it might not be Spring just yet, our hearts are all a-flutter here. February’s free sheet music download of the month is an interesting love song called “When My Baby Smiles At Me.”
Composed in 1920 by Bill Munro, the lyrics for “When My Baby Smiles at Me” were written by Ted Lewis and Andrew B. Sterling. Ted Lewis was the original performer of the song. Ted Lewis enjoyed a career in music, spanning over fifty years. “When My Baby Smiles at Me” marked the beginning of the roaring twenties and the start of Lewis’ world-wide popularity. Lewis used to enjoy world-wide recognition for his music up until the mid-1930s, even though he went on to enjoy a long career in music.
Both the guitar tab and the piano sheet music includes the lyrics to “When My Baby Smiles At Me.” We hope you enjoy February’s free sheet music download of the month, and hope you are inspired to sing or play this fun, uplifting tune for your sweetheart.
The free song should be available no later than Monday. For now, you can still download “Hail to the Chief.”
