Have you heard Susan Boyle singing “I Dreamed a Dream” from Les Miserables? Earlier this week we sent our Twitter followers a “tweet” about Susan Boyle. We had said:

twitter_logo_sMusicnotes.com LogoMorning music lovers! Here’s a wonderful story about a singer on “Britain’s Got Talent” TV show. http://buzz.yahoo.com/buzzlog/92464. 8:45 a.m. April 13th

Just a few days after our “tweet,” the story of this forty-seven year old, unemployed singer from West Lothian in the UK has circulated the globe faster than you can say “I Dreamed a Dream.” A fansite located at http://www.susan-boyle.com has dubbed the phenomenon with the catch phrase “you can’t judge a book by its cover.” It seems no one expected this talented singer to sing as well as well as she has.

According to a post on the WSJ dubbed the Susan Boyle Bubble, the video showing her performance of “I Dreamed a Dream” from Les Miserables has been seen well over twelve million times.

Susan Boyle’s performance on the show Britain’s Got Talent was an endearing one to watch, because her rendition of I Dreamed a Dream is very inspiring. Not only did she pick “the” right song to audition, but it was sung so beautifully many people have had an emotional reaction to the performance.

Here’s a video of Susan Boyle singing “I Dreamed a Dream.

We hope that this fantastic performance will inspire you to make music a part of your day. If you’re interested in playing or singing Susan Boyle’s audition piece, visit Musicnotes.com for I Dreamed a Dream sheet music from Les Miserables.

BREAKING UPDATE: Susan Boyle’s first recording performance was for charity in 1999. Susan sang the blues song Cry Me A River. Here’s a link to the Susan singing Cry Me A River on YouTube! Enjoy!

Feel free to chime in with your thoughts on Susan Boyle’s performance of “I Dreamed a Dream” in the comments below! Have a wonderful day!

Love Broadway Shows and Musicals? Here are Your 2009 Movie Musicals.

Love Broadway Shows and Musicals? Here are Your 2009 Movie Musicals.

During the Oscars, Hugh Jackman had sung and danced his way into the hearts of the audience. At the end of one of the performances, he had proclaimed, “The musical is back!” Here at Musicnotes.com, we couldn’t agree more. This list of movie musicals for 2009 is by no means a comprehensive one, but there are a few musical highlights we wanted to point out.

fame-movie-soundtrack Did you know that they are working on a production of Fame: the Movie? There isn’t an “official website” up yet, but according to the Internet Movie Database (IMDb) the film will debut in September. You can watch a sneak preview of Fame on IMDb, to see what it’s about. No word yet on the soundtrack, but if the sheet music for Fame the TV show is any indication, expect a high-energy list of songs.

Next up we wanted to share with all you Broadway fans out there that two shows are due out in 2009, with a lot more on the way in 2010. Both the Broadway musicals Nine and Jekyll & Hyde are being made into movies. Not to be confused with Tim Burton’s “9,” the Broadway show Nine is set in a Venetian spa during the early 1960s. The story is about a romantic, middle-aged film director who finds himself unable to complete his next film. His dilemma? There are one “three” many women in his life: his wife, his mistress and his protege. Songs for the Broadway show included Unusual Way, and were composed by Maury Yeston.

Jekyll & Hyde is a Broadway show based on the theatrical adaptation of the Novella Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde by Robert Louis Stevenson. The play “Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde” ran from 1887 to 1907, but it wasn’t turned into a broadway show until ninety years later. This fall, the Broadway hit will be made into a musical. We have several songs for Jekyll & Hyde sheet music, and expect that many of these will be featured in the movie version as well. Some of us are wondering if the decision to make this movie was based on the success of Sweeney Todd. What do you think?

hannah-montana-the-movieDisney continues to deliver popular musical films like High School Musical, and in 2009 there are two of them. Debuting on April 10th, Hannah Montana: the Movie from Disney stars Miley Cyrus. Already we’ve received a ton of requests for songs from the Hannah Montana soundtrack. You can now download sheet music from Hannah Montana: the Movie to find songs by Miley Cyrus, Taylor Swift and Rascal Flatts. If you’re interested in this film, you can learn more about it at the official website for Hannah Montana.

The other musical Disney film that debuts shortly is the Jonas Brothers the 3D Concert Experience. Another musical extravaganza from Disney that’s debuting this year is the movie Jonas Brothers: the 3D Concert Experience, with special guests Taylor Swift and Demi Lovato. The song features some of your favorites from the Jonas Brothers, but also offers a new song, too! If you’re inspired to play songs from the movie, check out our Jonas Brothers sheet music for some of your favorites!

rolling-stones-ruby-tuesdayDo you remember the animated film Heavy Metal? The movie soundtrack was first released in 1981 and included songs like Open Arms by Journey and The Mob Rules by Black Sabbath. Well, we got word that another rock-n-roll animated musical is in production. It’s called “Ruby Tuesday” and is based on the song Ruby Tuesday by The Rolling Stones.

Sneak Preview of Movie Musicals for 2010

What’s next on the movie musical calendar? In an upcoming post, we’ll share with you the exciting list of Broadway shows-turned-musicals. Here’s one of the movies that’s supposed to debut in 2010. It’s a two-hour “remake” of The Rocky Horror Picture Show produced for TV. Can you imagine some of those songs like Sweet Transvestite or Super Heroes performed with the singers and actors from today?

That’s all for now, stay tuned for more upcoming musical movies!
