Movie Sheet Music from The Oscars

Did you watch the Academy Awards? This year’s nominated films ranged from popular movies like AVATAR to CRAZYHEART, a movie starring Jeff Bridges about a country singer-songwriter named “Bad Blake.”

Our selection of movie sheet music highlights a few films that were nominated for the music-related categories, but we do have a few other songs we’d like to point out from other films. First, we’d like to highlight that we have the theme song from INVICTUS, starring Morgan Freeman and Matt Damon. Morgan Freeman’s portrayal of Nelson Mandela earned him his fifth nomination for “Best Actor.”

We also have two songs from CRAZY HEART. The first is the signature song from the film entitled The Weary Kind which was composed by Ryan Bingham and T Bone Burnett. This song won an Oscar for “Best Original Song.” The second is the song Fallin’ and Flyin’ which was performed by Jeff Bridges in the movie about “Bad Blake.”

Two Disney movies were also nominated for a music-related Academy award as well. Besides winning in the category of “Animated Feature Film,” UP won an award in the category of “Best Musical Score.” The music was composed by Michael Giacchino, whose work stretches from television shows like LOST to action-adventure movies like STAR TREK and everything in between. Giacchino has written several scores for animated features, including RATATOUILLE and THE INCREDIBLES! This particular soundtrack already won a few Grammys and even a Golden Globe.

In addition to UP, the animated feature film THE PRINCESS AND THE FROG was also nominated for several awards, including “Animated Feature Film.” Two of the songs from this movie, which was set in and around New Orleans, were nominated for “Best Song.” Almost There and Down In New Orleans, which were both composed by Randy Newman, were both nominated in that category.

On the heels of winning a Golden Globe for Best Picture and a Golden Globe for Best Director, the movie AVATAR was considered for several Oscars, too, including an award for Best Original Score. James Horner, like Giacchino, is a veteran composer with several credits to his name including both the movie score and the love song from TITANIC, My Heart Will Go On, as well as music for THE GRINCH, AN AMERICAN TALE, THE MASK OF ZORRO, BRAVEHEART and several others.

We are pleased to announce that we have the piano solos for the entire score, which was composed by James Horner, available for you to download. If you love AVATAR, you’ll be happy to know that we also have sheet music for I See You, which was performed by Leona Lewis and composed by James Horner. You can watch her performance in the video below.

Hope you had fun watching the Academy Awards! Be sure to get a recap on the official website http://oscar.go.com/.

Wizard of Oz 70th Anniversary Deluxe SongbookBased on a book entitled The Wonderful Wizard of Oz by L. Frank Baum, the stunning musical The Wizard of Oz was produced seventy years ago today. Historically, the 1939 movie production starring Judy Garland, Frank Morgan and Ray Bolger is considered one of the greatest films of all time and has inspired musicals like The Wiz and Wicked. Both the film production and the musical soundtrack have a rich history filled with interesting trivia. Did you know that the Tin Man’s makeup was toxic? Or how about the fact that Shirley Temple was also considered for the lead of Dorothy?

Musicnotes.com is thrilled to celebrate the seventieth anniversary of the Wizard of Oz by featuring beautifully-arranged sheet music and a gorgeous songbook. We’ve just received a brand new sheet music book entitled The Wizard of Oz: 70th Anniversary Deluxe Songbook from Alfred Music Publishing. This full color book marks the first time some songs from The Wizard of Oz sheet music have been published in over a century. Arranged and transcribed by Tod Edmonson and Ethan Neuburg, you’ll find movie stills, two songs from the 1903 Broadway musical production of The Wizard of Oz that include lyrics by original Oz author L. Frank Baum, biographies, fact-filled essays and more!

Cary Ginell, who works for Alfred Music Publishing, wrote the history essay for the newly published sheet music book. Not only is he a music historian, musician and author of five books on American music, he has a deep love of music that shines through his writing. We would like to extend our thanks to Cary and all the folks over at Alfred for sharing the news with us about this collector’s item, and offer our congratulations on a beautiful book. Here are a few more points we’d like to share about this sheet music book:

  • For the first time, all the songs from The Wizard of Oz are presented in their original keys.
  • Songs are newly arranged from rare M-G-M studio manuscripts & the original motion picture soundtrack.
  • Includes biographies of songwriters Harold Arlen and E.Y. Harburg, as well as music director/conductor Herbert Stothart.
  • The “Munchkinland Musical Sequence,” is presented for the first time as it appears in the film: as an uninterrupted operetta, with all songs, dialog, and themes included.
  • Music is included for “The Jitterbug,” a rare song that was deleted from the original film.

In addition to this collector’s item, we also offer the songs through our digital sheet music format.

Sheet Music for Harry Potter Movies

Sheet Music for Harry Potter Movies

Posted on Jul 17, 2009 by Monica.

Harry Potter and the Half Blood PrinceHarry Potter and the Half Blood Prince is the sixth movie in the Harry Potter franchise. Based on the books by author J.K. Rowling, in this film Ron, Hermione and Harry enter their sixth year at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Unlike the other films, the villains in the Half Blood Prince are even more prevalent in both the wizarding and the “muggle” world, creating a chaotic school year for the characters fans have come to know and love.

As Dumbledore and Harry race to unlock the secrets to Lord Voldemort’s past, new characters like Narcissa Malfoy are introduced to complicate matters while old characters like Severus Snape seem to show a different side to their personality. Throw teenage romance into the mix, and Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince may be considered a movie about love in the face of imminent danger. Many of the song titles for Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Price have titles that reflect both the romantic and the darker themes of the movie, too. “When Ginny Kissed Harry” or “In Noctem,” are just two examples of songs from this film. The word “noctem” is latin for “night.”

Musicnotes.com is proud to announce that we have sheet music for Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince. For your convenience, we are listing the songs below.

In addition to Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince, we also offer sheet music for the other Harry Potter films in the series. The sheet music for these songs are also included in our selection of Halloween sheet music, because many of our customers enjoy Harry Potter music during that time of year.

Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix In Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, Lord Voldemort works furiously behind the scenes to attack Harry through the connection he has with his mind while the Order of the Phoenix — a group of powerful wizards — regroups to fight the forces of evil. Unfortunately, Hogwarts is overtaken by a representative from the Ministry of Magic named Dolores Umbridge who has her own, antiquated ideas of “teaching;” Harry spends his time trying to fight off his connection with Voldemort while teaching Ron, Hermione and several other students at Hogwarts to defend themselves against the dark arts. The movie takes an interesting turn when the students find themselves fighting for their lives over a prophecy at the Ministry of Magic.

The sheet music for Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix includes a digital folio which allows you to save almost $16.00. One of the songs that people really enjoy from this film is the song called Fireworks.

Harry Potter and the Goblet of FireHarry Potter and the Goblet of Fire is a movie that has — at its heart — a magical contest to prove the “best” witch or wizard. Harry finds himself between a rock and a hard place, because someone older than him threw his name into the Goblet of Fire so that he might compete with the likes of Fleur Delacour, Viktor Krum and Cedric Diggory in the Triwizard Tournament. The film ends (and begins) in tragedy, signaling the return of Voldemort and the Death Eaters.

Sheet music for Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire includes piano and voice solos, as well as several, other instruments that range from the french horn to the violin. We have a very large selection of sheets for this movie, so be sure to browse by your instrument to find the song you want to play (or sing).

Harry Potter and the Prisoner of AzkabanMany Harry Potter fans enjoy the film Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban because by this point in the franchise, fans feel like they’ve gotten to know the characters. Structured differently than the first, two films, Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban offers many mysteries for fans to explore. For starters, Harry believes the nefarious Sirius Black, who turns out to be Harry’s godfather, is behind the death of his parents. Toss in the mystery of Remus Lupin and Ron’s rat Scabbers, and there are a lot of entertaining twists and turns in this film that .

In our collection of sheet music for Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, there’s a particular song which vocalists really enjoy. We offer two versions of the song Double Trouble on our site; you might recognize the phrase double, double toil and trouble which originated from Shakespeare’s play “Macbeth.”

Because there are variations in vocal arrangements, we do offer a few different digital folios in addition to the individual sheet music.

Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets As the second film in the series, fans are still getting to know Harry, Ron, Hermione, as well as new characters like Gilderoy Lockheart and Moaning Myrtle. In Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, the memory of a much younger Lord Voldemort possesses Ron’s sister Ginny through a strange journal. To rescue her, Harry ends up facing a gigantic basilisk deep in the Chamber of Secrets.

Sheet music for Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets includes a digital folio as well as the individual songs. Some of the piano solos come with an extra feature; the songs are “Sync-ready,” which means that your purchase of the sheet music includes the right and the ability to synchronize your sheet to a digital recording of the song.

Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone is the first movie in the Harry Potter franchise. Also known as Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone in Europe, this movie is about how Harry Potter found out he was a wizard, his first year at Hogwarts, and his developing friendship with Hermione Granger and Ron Weasley. From wizard’s chess to learning spells, this is a fun movie that introduces fans to the world and characters of Harry Potter.

Sheet music for Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone is available in our digital collections and as individual sheets. Like some of the other movies, we offer piano solos as well as sheet music arranged as solos, duets and trios for other instruments including: saxophone, flute, clarinet and trombone.

Be sure to stay tuned as we continue to offer sheet music for the Harry Potter films; feel free to use our song suggestion tool to let us know what songs you want to play or sing. Even though Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince has just been released in theaters, there are still two movies left. The last book, called Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows will be split into two movies that are expected to air in the fall of 2010 and the spring of 2011.

We’re glad you’re enjoying Harry Potter sheet music, and we hope that you find the sheet you’re looking for. For those of you that enjoy the Harry Potter movies, which one is your favorite? Do you like the movies better (or worse) than the books?

Love Broadway Shows and Musicals? Here are Your 2009 Movie Musicals.

Posted on Apr 07, 2009 by Monica.

During the Oscars, Hugh Jackman had sung and danced his way into the hearts of the audience. At the end of one of the performances, he had proclaimed, “The musical is back!” Here at Musicnotes.com, we couldn’t agree more. This list of movie musicals for 2009 is by no means a comprehensive one, but there are a few musical highlights we wanted to point out.

fame-movie-soundtrack Did you know that they are working on a production of Fame: the Movie? There isn’t an “official website” up yet, but according to the Internet Movie Database (IMDb) the film will debut in September. You can watch a sneak preview of Fame on IMDb, to see what it’s about. No word yet on the soundtrack, but if the sheet music for Fame the TV show is any indication, expect a high-energy list of songs.

Next up we wanted to share with all you Broadway fans out there that two shows are due out in 2009, with a lot more on the way in 2010. Both the Broadway musicals Nine and Jekyll & Hyde are being made into movies. Not to be confused with Tim Burton’s “9,” the Broadway show Nine is set in a Venetian spa during the early 1960s. The story is about a romantic, middle-aged film director who finds himself unable to complete his next film. His dilemma? There are one “three” many women in his life: his wife, his mistress and his protege. Songs for the Broadway show included Unusual Way, and were composed by Maury Yeston.

Jekyll & Hyde is a Broadway show based on the theatrical adaptation of the Novella Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde by Robert Louis Stevenson. The play “Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde” ran from 1887 to 1907, but it wasn’t turned into a broadway show until ninety years later. This fall, the Broadway hit will be made into a musical. We have several songs for Jekyll & Hyde sheet music, and expect that many of these will be featured in the movie version as well. Some of us are wondering if the decision to make this movie was based on the success of Sweeney Todd. What do you think?

Watchmen Movie Sheet Music for the Soundtrack

Watchmen Movie Sheet Music for the Soundtrack

watchmen-soundtrack-cover Watchmen released in theaters this past weekend grossing an impressive $55.7 million. The film is based on an acclaimed graphic novel by Alan Moore, who has a love-hate relationship with Hollywood. So far the film has received an average rating of 65 percent according to Watchmen reviews on Rotten Tomatoes, in part due to its “R” rating. Watchmen is a landmark film in part because it’s the first R-Rated superhero movie ever produced, but also because it’s a film based on a graphic novel that has received critical acclaim.

Part of the graphic novel’s success has been due to its multi-layered storyline which spans decades. The Interview with Alan Moore by The Boston Phoenix has some great commentary on the challenges between relaying a storyline in comic format, novel format and film. For example:

A novel is all up in the foreground. The reader is made painfully aware of every detail. Because the author has to call attention to it or the reader is not aware of it. In comics, we can slip in this subliminal layer in the background. We don’t have to mention it, but the reader will be slowly picking up the fact that the smily face is recurring in different incarnations throughout the book and the links between the Gordian Knot lock company, the Nodus Gordii Mountains on Mars – all these little links. — Alan Moore (Courtesy of The Boston Phoenix

Music plays an important part in this film as well, because the song selection here will relate to different time periods in history. The songs that we have digital sheet music or guitar tab for are linked in this list below.

1. Desolation Row (My Chemical Romance)
2. Unforgettable (Nat King Cole)
3. The Times They Are A-Changin’ (Bob Dylan)
4. The Sound Of Silence (Simon & Garfunkel)
5. Me & Bobby McGee (Janis Joplin)
6. I’m Your Boogie Man (KC & The Sunshine Band)
7. You’re My Thrill (Billie Holiday)
8. Pruit Igoe & Prophecies (Philip Glass)
9. Hallelujah (Leonard Cohen)
10. All Along The Watchtower (Jimi Hendrix)
11. Ride of the Valkyries (Budapest Symphony Orchestra)
12. Pirate Jenny (Nina Simone)
