Comment on Song for Thought: The Many Benefits of Playing Music by Denise Scruggs http://blog.musicnotes.com/2014/06/27/benefits-of-playing-music/#comment-2902 Sun, 13 Jul 2014 05:41:32 +0000 http://blog.musicnotes.com/?p=7448#comment-2902 My dad had seen the value of private piano lessons for 7 years. The lessons lasted from the ages 9 through 16. Music helped me to survive the last year my parents were married. I became a Christian at 18 and soon found a niche in playing the piano for children which lasted for 18 years. I meet a couple in 1980 who were both musical, the husband encouraged me to renew my interest in the guitar which I did for about 3 years. The piano was more needed for the children’s division which I continued. From time to time I brought out the guitar for certain times and songs. I had a career change and our family moved to the country in 1996 to gain new life skills. The church needed a primary teacher and music so the guitar fix the situation perfectly! My husband’s health declined in 2011 and the recorder was more appropriate for my emotional needs. I could close the door and not disturb my husband who did not sleep well. I enjoy hymns very much because of the spiritual messages. These songs share the experiences of others who have gone before me. Hymns provide encouragement to me and can stabilize my moods for a positive outlook on life.
