Chopin Prelude from Halo 3 'Believe' Commercial

Halo3_thumb As gamers out there all know, Halo 3 is coming on September 25th.  Microsoft has begun it's major advertising campaign for the game, and has put together several commercials.  One of these, entitled Believe, is scheduled to begin airing this weekend.

The commercial spot is already available online, and many people have been asking what the music playing in the background is.  The piece is Chopin's Prelude in D Flat Major (Raindrops), Opus 28, No. 15.  The piano solo sheet music for this pieces is available for download at Musicnotes here - and the segment in the video begins in the second to last system on page 2 (the C# minor portion).

Halo fans - stay tuned... we have even more exciting music coming soon.

Super Mario by a Beatbox Flutist

If you're a flutist, know a flutist, have ever heard a flutist and have played Super Marios Bros., ever seen someone play Super Mario Bros, or just heard your kids play it over and over from the other room... this is for you.

Song in the Gears of War Trailer

If you're a videogame fan, particularly an XBox 360 fan, you may have seen the new trailer for Gears of War.  You probably also noticed the song that's used in the trailer: Gary Jules's "Mad World."  The song was also featured in the movie "Donnie Darko."

If you're looking for the sheet music, you can find it here.

The Songwriting Game

Here's a cool little game / online application we came across today:  The Songwriting Game.

Basically it's an online application that allows you to "write" songs online using chord progressions - all through a drag-and-drop interface.  It's pretty interesting, and quite a bit of fun once you get into it.

What's especially cool about this tool is that once you've written your masterpiece, you can even print out the notation for the music so you can go play it yourself!

Music Crossword Puzzles

So today when I was looking at music news on Billboard, I got sidetracked by a poll.  After I clicked on the poll I found something even cooler though - Music-Related Crossword!

It's all done in javascript, which means you can fill out the crossword puzzle online.  All the clues have to do with music, like 14 Across: "Organ that can hear an organ."

I assume they have a new puzzle every day, but seeing as how I just found it I can't make any guarantees.

Either way, it's pretty fun.

Nintendo's New DS Lite

As anyone within Musicnotes already knows, I'm a pretty avid fan of videogames - so yesterday I was ecstatic to pick up my brand new Nintendo DS Lite (handheld videogame system).  I've been the owner of a standard Nintendo DS for over a year now and have been a huge fan of Nintendo ever since I fell in love with Super Mario Bros.

Anyway, you're probably wondering what this has to do with Musicnotes.  The answer is this: Nintendo, in my opinion, has done a wonderful job with this new version of their hardware.  They've taken in comments and suggestions from the industry as well as their customers to give both avid and casual gamers a wonderful (and continually improving) entertainment experience.

This is also a core value at Musicnotes.  If you've been a customer of ours for a while, you've likely seen quite a few changes over the years with Musicnotes - in upgrades to our technology, our catalog of sheet music, and our web site.  These kinds of changes never could have been possible without feedback from you all, and we appreciate it greatly.  Whether it's praise or criticism, we value each of your comments as they help us build out the best possible experience for you all.  Thank you.

Oh - and if you happen to be a fan of videogames and music, like I am - you might find the music generating tool / game Electroplankton to be a fun little diversion.
